Our 5th Math Contest

Grade 1 to Grade 12
We are very pleased to announce that our 5th Math Competition, The New Pythagoreans, will be held at the University of Toronto, Mississauga! The registration is open from February 1st to May 10th 2018.


Along your online registration, you can also purchase a Sample of the questions of 2017 Math Contest, as a PDF file. This PDF file will ONLY feature questions of our previous contest. Along with your registration, please specify the grade of your child/ren of the booklet you are looking for. $5 is the cost per booklet per grade.

From 10 to 11 am for Grade 1 to Grade 5 - Please arrive between 9:15 and 9:50 to sign in

From 10 to 11:30 am for Grade 6 to Grade 12 - Please arrive between 9:15 to 9:50 to sign in

After 9:50 all participants will enter auditorium IB 120 to take their seats.

Parents are expected to be present at the end of the competition to pick up their children

Our Vision

Our goal is to be the leading mathematics Olympics in Ontario and provide outstanding service that would allow us to expand throughout Canada. We believe that. Showcase student knowledge in a competitive environment. Challenge creative thinking and applying math expertise in solving complex problems. Develop comprehensive solution answers that would build excellence required to succeed in leading universities’ science programs.

General Rules

  • The only aids that are permitted are pencils, pens, erasers, rulers, protractors and compasses. Scratch paper may also be used, but all scratch paper is to be provided by the proctors.
  • Students must legibly print their name and ID# on each page (You will receive the ID # once you register). After the contest each student will only receive the first page, because all of the other pages, with solutions and scratch papers, will be checked, scanned and e-mailed to the parent's attention up to 1 week after the competition.
  • All solutions and answers must be written legibly.
  • We will send your solutions and results by email.

    • What date will this year's contest be?
    • The 5th New Pythagoreans Math Competition will be on Sunday, May 13, 2018.

    • What time will the contest begin and end at?
    • From 10AM- 11AM for Grades 1-5 and from 10AM-11:30AM for Grades 6-12.

    • Will there be any multiple choice questions?
    • No, our contest has no multiple choice questions. Students must show all of their work.

    • How many questions will the contest consist of?
    • The contest consists of 15 questions. Problems 1-5 are worth 3 points, 6-10-are worth 5 points and 11-15 are worth 7 points. The maximum score is 75 points.

    • How can students obtain the maximum score on the contest?
    • In order for students to obtain the maximum score per question they have to show their work on the worksheets

    • What is the fee for participants?
    • The competition fee is $20.

    • What is the last day for registration?
    • The last day is Tuesday May 10, 2018.

    • How can I prepare for this Math Comeptition?
    • For the first we are selling Sample of the 2017th as a PDF File for $5 per Grade.

    • Are calculators permitted?
    • No calculators or electronic devices are permitted.

    • What should I bring to the contest?
    • Participants should bring at least 2 pencils, an eraser and ruler. They are allowed to bring a geometry set if they wish (protractor and compass. We will only be providing participants will lined paper.

    • How do I find out my mark?
    • After the competition we will correct the student's worksheets, they scan it and e-mail it to the parent's attention up to 2 weeks after the competition.

    • When will the award ceremony be?
    • The award ceremony will be on May 27 2018 at the University of Toronto. If you are unable to attend the award ceremont, please contact SCHOOL4Math to recieve your prize.
